VALENTINA CASTELLINI

Valentina Castellini is a labor and economic geographer researching work and working lives in both mainstream and alternative organizations, such as green businesses, social enterprises, and cooperatives.

Valentina’s work revolves around the extension of work across time and space and the consequences this process has on workers and workplaces.

In her doctoral research, Valentina examined the work cultures and practices within the Italian social and solidarity economy, as well as workers’ efforts to improve their working conditions. Her research is inspired by an overarching commitment to advancing just and sustainable work, while foregrounding the experiences and perspectives of workers and their communities.

Valentina holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Toronto (2023).

Prior to joining the IIES, Valentina was a postdoctoral fellow in Economic Sociology at the University of Bologna in 2024.
